Rosatom denies media reports about halting uranium supplies to US
MOSCOW, Dec 15 (PRIME) -- Russian state nuclear power corporation Rosatom has denied media reports about the allegedly possible preventive termination of uranium supplies to the U.S., the company said in a statement on Friday.
“TENEX completely refutes as misleading information about “warnings” attributed to TENEX's U.S. unit about the possibility of a “pre-emptive” ban on enriched uranium shipments to the U. S. Neither TENEX itself nor its subsidiaries have made any such notifications to their foreign customers,” the statement read.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported citing sources that TENEX, also known as Techsnabexport, foreign trade affiliate of Rosatom, has warned U.S. customers that Russian authorities could preemptively ban uranium exports if Washington imposes an embargo on its imports from 2028.
Legislation pending in the U.S. Congress would permit imports of Russian uranium until 2028 through waivers to give consumers time to find alternative supplies. The initiative, previously approved in the U.S. House of Representatives, the lower chamber of the Congress, was blocked by senators on Thursday, and the bill's prospects remain unclear, the agency reported.
